Tips from the professionals of poker are great. These tips make perfect sense and you know that they work otherwise these guys wouldn’t be at the top of the game!

We’ve selected a few, from a number of the Pro’s on the poker circuit, which will give you the best all-round advice…

• Play selectively aggressive
• Play from position – avoid having to play catch-up
• Play from the blinds only with good hands
• Don’t wait for monster hands – A-A comes, on average, once every five hours of play
• Limping is for losers – if a hand is good enough to play with, it’s good enough to raise with!

• Never limp in!
• Come in raising and force your opponent to define his hand.
• Always make the same raise – ideally three times the blind.
• Stay ‘In the moment’. Forget about bad beats and bad plays.
• If you’re tired don’t play and have a reason to win – married guys do better than single guys!

• Don’t ridicule your opponent’s mistakes.
• Don’t play to impress your opponents.
• Don’t fold instantly unless you’re sure.
• You should be very reluctant to bet a marginally strong hand into a consistent bluffer. You'll often make more money checking and calling.
• Don’t bluff too often in loose games - When you bluff, clearly you don't want to be called, but in loose games you should expect to be.

• Pay attention all the time.
• When things have gone badly, sit there just as tough as you were when you first started.
• Respect your opponents – try not to think you’re better than you are.
• Embrace risk – don’t become too attached to your chips.
• Embracing risk doesn’t mean going crazy. Think every bet through.

• Have discipline – know when you’re beat.
• Be aggressive – passive players can’t win.
• Don’t bluff the unbluffable.
• Poker is not a game of luck – this game is 90% skill.
• Enjoy it – this is a game and you’re supposed to enjoy it!
