World Poker Tour
( WPT ) Tournaments
The World
Poker Tour (WPT) is a collection of Texas Hold'em poker tournaments
featuring the cream of professional players. The tour gained mass
popularity when it first appeared on cable television in the U.S.
in 2002. By 2004 the World Poker Tour was a hit show on major T.V.
networks such as NBC and CBS in the States and in Sky Television
in Europe.
You
don't have to be a pro player to join the tour, anyone who can pay
the "buy-in" (The entry fee) or win a "satellite"
tournament online is able to compete against the top players, such
as Doyle Brunson or Daniel Negreanu.
The World Poker Tournament operates on the standard poker tournament
format, each player receives an equal amount of chips at the beginning
of the game and the last man or woman standing takes the title and
a jackpot that is regularly in excess of $1 million. The main event in the
tour is the WPT Championship, usually held in one of the major casinos
in Las Vages. In 2005 a record 452 players converged on the Bellagio
Casino in Vegas, each paid $25,000 for a seat (or won seats in online
tournaments). 26 year old Tuan Lee was the eventually winner and
collected at staggering $2,856,150 prize fund for his efforts!.
